A few weeks ago children from across school took part in a writing competition.
Many children had the opportuinity for their writing to be published in a book.
These two superstars have now bought a copy of the book where their own writing has been published.

I am so proud of them and all of the other children who entered the competition!

Sir Charlie Stinky Socks and the Mummy's Gold
Date: 30th Mar 2022 @ 8:16am
Over the past two weeks we have been learning all about Sir Charlie Stinky Socks and the Mummy's Gold. The children started their learning by creating a setting box using different materials. The children really enjoyed working as a team to create their own desert box.

Once they had created their setting box, the children thought of similies to describe the different parts of the desert. They then used this learning to write a setting description.
This then supported their learning for this week. The children acted out the story and then wrote a alternative retell. They had to think of a new ending for our story and everyone was very creative!

We have had a wonderful week learning about Metacognition in Class 7!
Class 7 have had an incredible start to Curriculum Week! We have enjoyed discussing Metacognition and have thought about all the different ways we can include it in our learning. Meditation has been one of our favourite activities.

We have spent part of our mornings creating our very own affirmation books. We have enjoyed thinking about what will help us to progress in our learning. We have discussed the comfort, stretch and panic zones of learning and will use our affirmation books to support us!

We have been practiced the different Kagan structures that we have been using over the year. Our favourite structures are rally robin and round robin. To make it more interesting the teacher will ask a child what another child has shared with them.
On Wednesday we spent the day planning, monitoring and evaluating our own Egyptian necklaces. We thought about what we already knew about Egyptian necklaces, what we needed to learn and what resources we would need. We then began to make our necklaces and monitored our learning as we were going!

This week in Class 7 we have been learning all about shadows and how they are formed. We tried to answer the question - Does the size of a shadow change depending on the distance from the light source?
We found that the closer the puppet was to the light source the bigger the shadow was and the further away the puppet was from the light source the smaller the shadow was.

Class 12 took part in a school linking project last week with Mayfield Primary School. We created a joint poem with the their year 5 class and also completed some fantastic artwork that will be going on display in Gallery Oldham.
This is the poem that they created.
Linking Schools Poem:
Who are we and how do we live together?
We live in a town called Oldham, where we have treasured memories, have a proud history of art and leisure, do bungee jumping and cliff climbing with friends, don’t judge others, and have fantastic places to go for walks with our family.
We are caring, nice, sweet and kind, passionate, helpful and make good choices to help others, and welcoming to everyone.
We soar to the skies and believe, achieve and succeed; we learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow.
And in this perfect place are happy people who live their lives to the fullest; lots of landscapes, rivers and mountains; peace and harmony, opportunities to develop and achieve anything you want, delicious food and colourful roads, love and affection, clean streets that are litter free, and beautiful skies and people.
We keep it beautiful by reducing the amount of waste, reusing items when we can and recycling, keeping it tidy, staying clean and helping poor people.
Our Oldham is amazing because of its unique people and different cultures, special because our nature thrives, and our Oldham is the heart of us.

For Maths, the children were asked to solve a range of questions involving fractions and probability. They worked very hard and learned new skills and developed a greater understanding.
For our Science topic we investigated whether gases have weight. The children had lots of fun investigating this and observing what happens to a fizzy cola bottle when shaken vigorously! Ask them what they learned!
